Women Are Criticized Differently Than Men Are

Megan McArdle, with whom I often disagree and would not often recommend reading, makes the correct point that influential women are not just often criticized, they are criticized differently than men are - often with fantastical scenarios of sexual violence involved. It's good to call people out on this.

I definitely agree with the general sentiment that in surveying (and raising social awareness of) the sorts of disparity in ad hominem attacks premised disproportionately on gender, class, or race that go on in the political arena, there's opportunity for insight/identification of the sexist, classist, racist tropes still pervasive in the general cultural imagination (and, therefore, still perverting individual-level perception and judgment of the political issues actually being debated).
